essential channels that will make your online presence known.
Mark Twain once said, “Many a small thing has been made large by the right kind of advertising.”
As true as this quote might be, Mr. Twain failed to mention what the “right kind of advertising” is, especially when it comes to your online store. That’s why, in today’s episode, I’m stepping in to fill the void. Watch the video above to learn the five most basic methods to market your website to the masses.
Happy selling!

Hi everybody! My name is Matt and I’m the Social Media Manager here at Volusion. Welcome to Two Minute Tuesdays, where we give you two minutes of ecommerce advice to bolster your online success.
As we approach the New Year, it might be time for you to shift gears from building your business to expanding it; and to do that, look no further than online marketing. In today’s episode, we’re going to give you an overview of the top five basic ways to market you website. Let’s dive in!
First up is SEO, which stands for search engine optimization. The overall objective of SEO is to make sure that your website is visible when shoppers enter searches for your products or industry in Google and other search engines. In a nutshell, the higher you rank for these search terms, the better off you’ll be (and the more traffic you’ll get to your website).
Along the same lines of SEO is pay per click, also known as paid search or PPC. PPC is defined as direct advertisements in these search engines. So, if you ever see the sponsored results at the top and/or right hand side of Google results, you’re seeing PPC ads. PPC is a great way for you to pay to have your site visible in top search engines while waiting for your SEO efforts to come to fruition.
Third in line is good old-fashioned email, one of the top pillars of online marketing. As far as explanations are concerned, there’s not too much needed here – you’re simply emailing messages to customers. With email marketing, you want to ensure that you’re always growing and fostering your list while keeping your email design just as pretty as your website.
Fourth up is one of the most popular and recent marketing channels right now, social media. To get started, launch a blog with high quality content and build Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages, if appropriate. Social media is a great way, along with email, to nurture the people that you’ve acquired through SEO, PPC and other marketing efforts.
Last, but not least, is web design. While this isn’t typically considered a marketing channel, web design is a really important marketing tool. Just think – do you really want to spend time and money working on the other four marketing outlets, only to send customers to an ugly website? Doesn’t make much sense, does it? Thus, having a site that shines will help you drive quality traffic all year long.
If you have any other questions about this or anything else related to ecommerce, we’re always happy to help.
From me to you, happy selling!
