What Halloween Means to Online Sellers
According to OneUpWeb’s study 2006 Holiday Online Retail Buying Trends, consumers start thinking about the holidays in October, which marks the start of the long tail holiday season. Regarding the Halloween season, the study also states, “Halloween is a good milestone to keep in mind. All data points make a significant jump during the final week of October and stay above that level through the peak sales weeks of the holiday season. While customers may not be motivated to begin holiday shopping in brick-and-mortar stores as early as the final week of October, online they are thinking about it and searching. There are conversions to be had for companies ready to greet those searchers and take advantage of the Long Tail.” In regards to the holidays, the study goes on to say, “Cyber Monday lived up to expectations, marking high traffic and conversion rates, and extraordinary sales levels. It did not mark in the start of the holiday buying season, as Halloween is a more appropriate marker of the holiday season launch date.” So treat (don’t trick) yourself this Halloween by having your online store braced and ready for another record breaking holiday season!
