5 Signs That It’s Time for a Website Redesign | Two Minute Tuesdays

We all know that web design is important, but many of us don’t know when it’s time for a refresh. Watch today’s episode for five indicators that you’re due for a website redesign.

It can be easy to put off a website redesign. Between processing orders, marketing your site and growing your business, far too many of us hold off on giving our ecommerce sites a much-needed makeover.

But how long is too long when it comes to keeping your current design? Sometimes it’s obvious, such as if your site just looks old, but other times it’s a little more unclear – like if your bounce rate is inexplicably high or customers get lost in your site navigation. To learn more about these and other warning signs, watch today’s video to make sure you’re not excessively holding off on redesigning your site.

Hi, everybody! My name’s Matt and I’m the Social Media Manager here at Volusion. Welcome to Two Minute Tuesdays, where we bring you two minutes of ecommerce advice to bolster your online success.

I bet you’re already aware of how important your website design is. Once you’ve gotten everything designed the first time, however, you may be wondering when you should give your site its next makeover. Well, pay close attention, because today I’ve got five signs that it’s time for you to redesign your website.

First and most importantly, if your customers are having trouble finding things on your website, it’s time for a redesign. If you’re receiving navigational questions in your inbox, or if you’ve done user testing and your customers seem lost, you need to rethink your navigation and make sure you implement those improvements into your redesign.

The second warning sign of a site redesign is how much your brand has evolved. Over time, if you’ve changed your brand voice or started using a different color or new logo, it’s time to make sure that those brand changes have been incorporated into your web design. That way, your brand will be consistent and your design will properly reflect your updated brand.

Third on our list, if your bounce rate is high, it might be time for a website redesign. Your bounce rate is when a visitor comes to your website, sees one page and then leaves. High bounce rates are not good for conversions. If you’re seeing that your bounce rate is really high through your analytics profile, there’s a good chance your design is to blame.

Number four, if the message is too complicated, it’s time to simplify your site design. When you’re just getting started, it’s really easy to put as much stuff on your homepage or your website as possible. But, as countless others before you have shown, it’s much better to edit. So if you’re overloading your visitors with information, feel free to redesign and scale back.

Last, but definitely not least, if your website looks outdated and you know it in your gut, go ahead and look into redesigning it. Again, if your brand’s changed, if things just look a little bit old or antiquated, feel free to go ahead and make the investment to turn things around.

Keep these five signs in mind when you’re considering whether or not you should redesign your website. If you need any help, our team of experts is always happy to lend a hand. Any questions? Just leave me a comment in the box below and we’ll get right back to you.

From me to you, happy selling!
