Hi, everybody! My name’s Matt, and I’m the Marketing Communications Manager here at Volusion. Welcome to Two Minute Tuesdays, where we give you two minutes of ecommerce advice to bolster your online success.
You’ve probably heard that ecommerce design is really important to the success of your online business. But did you know that it can actually make or break your sales, your profit margins and everything in between? Well, pay close attention because if you haven’t invested in ecommerce design yet, I’ve got five big reasons why you should think about it.
Reason number one: Perception is reality. It sounds cliché, but it’s 100% true when it comes to your online business. If someone comes to your website and it’s ugly, they’re going to think poorly, not just of your website, but of your company overall. So don’t let that first impression go to waste.
Along the same lines, number two: Branding is everything. Your design is directly associated with, and actually drives the direction of your brand. So always make sure that your site design reflects the story that you want to tell. That way, people perceive your business and your brand to be exactly what you want others to think.
Number three: Design drives user experience. Put yourself in the shoes of your customer for a moment. If they come to your website for the first time, how will they find anything if you have a poorly structured web design? So make sure that you really shepherd people through the process by giving them specific CTAs and a simple, clean design that allows them to navigate easily.
Number four on our list, believe it or not, is that design actually impacts your SEO. Keep in mind whenever spiders are coming to your site, they need to be able to maneuver through it to check out its content. Since your design is closely tied to your navigation and user experience, that means it’s also tied to your SEO.
Last and most importantly, design directly impacts sales. For all the reasons that we’ve mentioned above, the entire experience of your site, based on your design, will give them either a vote of confidence or otherwise when it comes to entering in their credit card information. So make your site professional, make it easy to use and you will increase sales through your web design.
