Hi everybody! My name is Matt and I’m the Social Media Manager here at Volusion. Welcome to Two Minute Tuesdays, where we give you two minutes of ecommerce advice to bolster your online success.

For all you Facebook fanatics out there, I’m sure you’re always trying to improve and optimize your Facebook page. With that in mind, I’d like to share my top three amazing things you can learn from Facebook Insights.

First, you can learn a lot about your top performing content. To do so, simply dive into Facebook Insights, which can be found on the tab under your profile picture of your business page. From there, you can filter to see which content pieces are most popular. For example, do videos receive more clicks and likes than pictures? How did your last blog post perform? Which topics are most relevant to your audience? By filtering to see how many people are engaging with your content, you can better plan to create content that your fans actually want to see.

Another amazing thing you can learn from Facebook Insights involves user demographics, or what type of people are coming to your page. You can see the visitor ratio between men and women and even see a breakdown of their ages. This information helps determine what audience you’re talking to, which helps frame your messaging to cater to these folks.

Last but not least, you can see where your likes are coming from. While you may have a bunch of likes on your Facebook page, do you know where they came from? For example, if you have a plug-in on your website, you can see how many likes started with this plug-in. Or, if you the majority of your “likes” come directly from your Facebook page, you can see that too. You can even see how many likes came from search results. All in all, these insights are a great way to optimize your placements and get more people onto your Facebook bandwagon.

If you have questions about this or anything related to Facebook, social commerce and ecommerce, we’re always happy to help.

From me to you, happy selling!

Matt, thanks for writing on this! I am not to the “facebook” point yet. Yes, I know I need to be creating one for my business…another of my sleepless night subjects for which I am building so many plans around. Also, I am really glad you brought the subject up of “reading vs. videos.” I really like the way it is presented here because I am on limited bandwith and cannot always watch a short video and I ACTUALLY HAVE A CHOICE TO READ IT INSTEAD. It is really frustrating that so many people take for granted their high speed internet….can’t wait till I can rent a lil office in town just for the internet…hopefully 3 months away if I stay on plan.

Thanks again, for another insightful article.

      Cindy,

Thanks so much for reading the article! Don’t fret about getting to your Facebook page just yet – it’s definitely important to have your site ready so you have a foundation to build and design your social media channels. Also, thanks for reinforcing the point of creating content in different media forms. Just because a lot of people don’t like to read doesn’t mean that it applies to all of us.

Best of luck with your ongoing business building – happy to help how we can!

      -Matt
